Thousands sign 'MegaKota' petition to merge South Dakota and North Dakota

A petition on Change.org calls for a "pretty cool" state name: "MegaKota."

That state, according to petition creator Dillan Stewart, would be a merge of North Dakota and South Dakota. The petition has more than 13,000 online signatures.

People signing the petition appear to have various reasons. One person said she thinks the petition is "dumb," but wanted to be part of it. Another signer said a unified Dakota would be the safest state in the United States.

Most of all, people adding their signature seem to be most attracted to the "MegaKota" name, which the organizer called "pretty cool" in his plea on the website.

Petitions on Change.org are designed to eventually make their way to the Oval Office to be considered by the President of the United States. To receive a response from the White House, petitions need at least 100,000 signatures in a 30-day period.
