(KGTV) – California Sen. Kamala Harris will enter the presidential race and likely make an official announcement later this month, according to a report published Thursday.
Bay Area radio station KCBS, citing sources, reported the 54-year-old Democrat will announce her run for the White House “on or around” Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
In recent days, Harris has embarked on a media tour to promote her just-published memoir titled “The Truths We Hold,” and she has faced numerous questions from media outlets about the possibility of running for president.
Harris has not given any strong indications that she is eyeing a 2020 run, recently telling the media that she would make a decision soon but not elaborating any further.
Harris and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who recently formed an exploratory committee but has not officially announced a presidential run, are considered among the top contenders for the Democratic nomination.
Many political experts believe other Democrats who may jump into the race include former Vice President Joe Biden, former Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders.
On the Republican side, President Trump has stated on numerous occasions that he will run for reelection.
