MALIBU (CNS) - A 12-foot pygmy sperm whale washed ashore at Zuma Beach in Malibu Friday and was being treated in a rescue vehicle, authorities said.
The whale was spotted at the shoreline about 7:45 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Beachgoers attempted to push the whale into the ocean, but were unsuccessful, and it was eventually carried to a nearby rescue vehicle for treatment.
The condition of the whale was not known, and it was not certain that it would survive, county lifeguard Capt. Remy Smith said.
