LOUISVILLE — A masked man trying to rob a fast-food restaurant in Louisville got quite the surprise when the only two customers inside happened to be married police officers out on a date night.
The incident happened at Raising Cain's Chicken Fingers at Mid City Mall in Louisville, Kentucky around 10 p.m. on Feb. 15. The Elizabethtown Police Department said officer Nicole McKeown and her husband, Detective Chase McKeown were on a date and sitting in the back of the restaurant when the masked man charged in and pointed a gun at the employee working the counter, demanding money.
“They were on a date night when an armed man with a mask attempted to rob the cashier,” the Elizabethtown Police Department (EPD) said in a statement on social media. “Both drew their off-duty weapons and apprehended the suspect. They held him at gunpoint until Louisville Metro Police Department officers arrived.”
The Louisville Police Department released surveillance footage from inside the restaurant which shows the couple as they realize what's happening, slowly draw their guns and take charge at the suspect.
"Shout out to the two Elizabethtown Police Department officers that went from enjoying them delish chicken fingie’s to full-blown #Sheepdogs real quick," The Louisville Police Department said in their post. “You never know who’s minding their own business but ready to put in work.”
According to WHAS, the suspect is a convicted felon and the weapon he was using had been stolen from Jeffersontown police.
“The couple, who met on the job at EPD when he was a patrol officer and she was a dispatcher at the agency, have been married 6 months,” Elizabethtown Police said.
