SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The Coast Guard rescued Friday a woman with a head injury from a sailboat near San Clemente Island.

The crew of the 54-foot boat Amazing Grace radioed Coast Guard Sector San Diego at 2:15 a.m. to report the woman had suffered an injury from the vessel’s boom.

A San Diego-based MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter flew to the boat 70-miles west of San Clemente Island for the rescue. A C-27 aircraft based at Coast Guard Air Station Sacramento also launched to provide radio coverage.

The Jayhawk arrived on scene at 4:39 a.m. and deployed a rescue diver, who helped the woman into a hoist basket. Seas were at eight feet with 10-knot winds at the time.

Coast Guard crew members assisted the woman onto the helicopter and flew her to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla for treatment. There was no word on her condition.
