A Connecticut man suffering from cystic fibrosis received a call from his idol, President Donald Trump on Tuesday evening, thanks to his sister — a Democratic politician.
According to the New Haven Register , Jay W. Barrett began home hospice on Sunday after a long battle with the disease. An adamant supporter of Trump, Barrett has longed to attend one of his rallies and shake his hand, but his weakened immune system has prevent him from doing so.
Barrett recently admitted to a local hospital after taking a downturn. Looking for any way to cheer him up, his sister, Bridgette Hoskie — a Democrat city councilwoman in West Haven , Connecticut— led a secret Facebook campaign to have friends and family petition the White House to have Trump call Barrett.
The campaign worked. On Tuesday night, Barrett received a call from Trump — and Hoskie shared the moment on her Facebook page.

Trump offered words of encouragement to Barrett and invited him to a future rally, should he hold one in the New Haven area.
"Through thick and thin, and there's been a lot of thicks and a lot of thins, I support you," Barrett said.
"That's beautiful. We love you Jay," Trump said.
"“My brother is very conservative, but politics aside, I think in a family religion and politics are off the table,” Hoskie told the New Haven Register. “He hasn’t always had it easy and been able to do the things other people do. But yeah, he’s my baby brother — time is chasing us.”
