ENCINITAS, Calif. (KGTV) -- A motorcyclist died after witnesses say he slammed into a deputy’s SUV Sunday morning.

A witness said the deputy was driving southbound on the 300 block of South Coast Highway 101 near the train station around 11:42 a.m. and made a U-Turn.

The victim was reportedly speeding and popping wheelies while driving northbound when witnesses say he T-Boned the deputy's SUV.

The deputy then got out of the vehicle and reportedly tried to help the man, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators also responded to the scene to find out exactly what led up to the crash.
