SAN DIEGO – A crash involving two motorcycles on a connector ramp between State Route 54 and Interstate 5 snarled traffic during the Tuesday morning commute.
The crash occurred at around 6 a.m. on the ramp between SR-54 west and I-5 north. According to California Highway Patrol, the collision was so intense that both motorcycles caught fire.
Two injured people were taken to UC San Diego Medical Center to be treated, a San Diego Fire-Rescue Department dispatcher said. Their conditions were not confirmed.
The crash left three northbound lanes blocked on Interstate 5 and prompted authorities to temporarily shut down the connector ramp, according to the CHP and Caltrans. But the ramp and all freeway lanes were reopened shortly before 7:30 a.m.
