US Army soldier from National City killed in non-combat incident in Afghanistan

(KGTV) - A National City native was killed in Afghanistan Tuesday in what U.S. officials are calling a non-combat related incident.

Staff Sgt. Diobanjo S. Sanagustin died in a non-combat incident at Bagram Air Field in Afghanistan. Department of Defense officials did not release further details but noted that the 32-year-old’s death is under investigation.

DOD officials said Sanagustin was assigned to 4th Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colorado.

Sanagustin was deployed to Afghanistan as part of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel.
