Fashion valley's high-end stores bring in shoppers from across the county.
And the traffic jams that form around the mall prove it. The line of cars can extend up the 163, going a mile east on friars road. It's especially bad on weekends and during the holidays.
And hundreds of families could soon add to the problem.
Development group Landcap Investment Partners bought the three aging office building across from the mall on Friars Road. It plans to build 243 apartments, 70 condos, and shops on the ground. The group has renderings on its website.
“Of course it will add to the traffic, people are more or less walking distance to the transit center, but still most people are going to drive,” said Brian Kerr, who has lived about a mile from the mall for 19 years.
Landcap Investment Partners didn’t immediately return a call about its plans to alleviate the traffic concerns.
The city's Planning Commission will consider the project this month - it could be done by 2019.
