SANTEE, Calif. (KGTV) - A beloved Santee donut shop reopened two days after a car nearly crashed into the business but caused enough damage to force a shutdown.
Owner Mary Hennessy was out early Tuesday morning to greet customers and to thank them for their support. She said reopening this soon would not have been possible without the tremendous amount of help she received since the crash on Mother’s Day.
Mary’s Donuts was busy as usual on May 13 when a car struck a pillar outside and then flipped before landing just steps away from the store’s entrance.
No one inside the shop or directly outside was hurt. 10News learned the driver had a medical emergency right before the crash and had to be rescued by firefighters after becoming trapped in the car.
The incident forced the store to close down.
Prior to the opening, a structural engineer checked the pillar and determined everything was safe for the store to reopen.
Mary’s Donuts is open 24 hours. It is located at 8959 Carlton Hills Boulevard.
