SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A man shot inside a car in the University Heights area Wednesday morning died from his wounds, leading to a police search for the gunmen.
San Diego police said they received a call just before 1 a.m. regarding an incident on El Cajon Boulevard, near Park Boulevard.
Responding officers said a man at the scene told them his friend had been shot inside the Mercedes-Benz they were in somewhere near Logan Avenue. The man said a light-colored sedan pulled up next to their vehicle and at least three Hispanic men fired 4-5 shots before fleeing the scene.
Police believe the Mercedes ended up on El Cajon Boulevard after getting lost trying to locate a hospital.
The victim, identified only as a 28-year-old Hispanic male, was transported to Scripps Mercy Hospital where he died from his injuries.
No other injuries were reported.
The incident is under investigation.
