ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) - A driver was arrested after crashing his car into a tree in Escondido Friday morning, killing his passenger.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash was reported at about 2:43 a.m. on N Broadway, at Paso Del Norte.
10News learned the driver escaped from the wrecked vehicle and flagged down a passing motorist and asked to be taken to the hospital.
However, at the hospital, the driver failed to mention that someone else was still in the car at the scene of the crash.
The Good Samaritan who initially helped the driver returned to the scene and found the injured passenger. Emergency responders pulled him from the wreckage, but he was declared dead at the scene. His identity was not disclosed.
Authorities told 10News the driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI.
