Man hit, killed near I-8 in Mission Valley

SAN DIEGO -- A man who walked from an off-ramp onto the connector road between the Interstate 8 freeway to State Route 163 was struck by at least one car and killed in the Mission Valley area, the California Highway Patrol reported.
  
The collision took place about 9:25 p.m. Thursday, on the road between the southbound SR-163 and I-8, according to the CHP.
  
The name of the deceased man was withheld pending notification of next of kin. It's unknown why the man walked onto the freeway.
  
The crash shut down the connector road, the off-ramp and several lanes on the 8 Freeway, according to the CHP.
  
A SigAlert was issued by the CHP at 9:42 p.m. The ramp was finally opened and the roadway cleared at 11:14 p.m.
  
The accident was under investigation by the CHP.
