SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A search was launched late Monday night for a car that struck a man on state Route 94 in the Golden Hill area.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a pedestrian was walking along the westbound side of SR-94 near 25th Street at around 11 p.m. when he apparently entered lanes. A car described as a mid-2000s silver Honda hit him and then drove away.

10News learned a second car also struck the man, but that driver pulled over and remained at the scene to talk to CHP officers.

The victim, who was not identified, was declared dead at the scene despite life-saving efforts.

CHP officers said they are unsure why the man was walking on the freeway.

A more accurate description of the hit-and-run vehicle was not immediately provided, but CHP officers said the car will likely have front-end damage.
