SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A man scaled a tall tree in a Mira Mesa neighborhood early Thursday morning in an attempt to evade police officers, but he was eventually arrested after a brief standoff.

The situation began after San Diego police responded to an elder abuse report at a home in the 8700 block of Stanwell Street at about 12:30 a.m.

Officers spotted a man suspected of being involved in the incident and tried to take him into custody, but he fled and ended up climbing a tall tree nearby.

The unidentified man stood at the top, about 40-50 feet from the ground, and tried to break off branches to throw at officers. He also sang, clapped his hands and screamed during the ordeal.

The man eventually climbed down from the tree and was taken into custody.
