SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Five people beat a man unconscious while he was walking through Horton Plaza mall Saturday night, according to the San Diego Police Department.
The 37-year-old victim was looking down at his phone when he was hit in the head from behind, police say.
It happened around 8:20 p.m. on the second level of the mall, after most of the shops had closed.
The suspects stole the man’s phone and were last seen running north through the mall towards Horton Plaza park.
The man was taken to the hospital with facial fractures but was expected to survive.
Police say two of the suspects were female, the other three were male.
One was described as a black man with a heavy build wearing a light purple shirt, khaki shorts, purple and white shoes and a black knit cap.
The second suspect was described as a black male wearing a black long sleeve shirt and black skinny jeans.
Police say the third suspect was a black male wearing a black hooded sweater with large white writing.
One of the female suspects was described as black with long wavy hair, gray long sleeve shirt and black shoes.
Police say the other was a black female wearing a black tank top and black pants.
