SAN DIEGO – Police are looking for a suspect who went on a violent tear in which he attacked his ex-girlfriend and then later fired several shots at a group of young men in the College Grove neighborhood overnight Tuesday.

The suspect has been identified as Salvador Ibara, a known gang member.

According to San Diego police, the incident began at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday when the suspect went to the home of his ex-girlfriend in the 8000 block of Lake Ashmere Drive. Ibara, accompanied, by another man, was waving a handgun and making threats, police said. He then left but later returned to the home around midnight. The second time he punched his ex-girlfriend, police said.

At about 1 a.m., Ibara and his companion were in a car that gave chase to a Toyota Camry carrying three young men in the 900 block of Harlan Circle. He cornered them, got out of his car and opened fire on the Camry, riddling it with bullets. The victims were not injured, however.  They were able to drive to the parking lot of a Sam’s Club, where they called 911. Their relationship to Ibara was not confirmed.

Ibara is considered armed and dangerous. Police say he may be a passenger in a Chevrolet Malibu. Anyone with information on his whereabouts should contact San Diego police.
