Man arrested after threat against Torrey Pines High School

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man is in custody after police say he made a threat against Torrey Pines High School Wednesday.

Police were notified of the threat against the school Wednesday around 9:40 p.m. According to a report, the threat, which was believed to have been made by a former student and was made on Instagram, included the possible use of weapons.

As a precaution, the school was closed Thursday. After investigating, police identified the suspect as Kevin Gregory Matlak, 21.

Matlak was arrested Thursday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. after being located on the 3300 block of Fenelon Street. Police said Matlak was not in possession of any weapons at the time of his arrest.

Police are looking into any possible access Matlak had to weapons.

Matlak was booked into jail for one count of making criminal threats. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
