CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) – Police are investigating the death of a woman whose nude body was found in the middle of a Chula Vista street early Thursday morning.

At around 12:30 a.m., a person called 911 to report a naked woman lying face down in the middle of the 200 block of Shasta Street, near Second Avenue.

Responding police officers checked the woman and found she was not breathing and had no pulse.

Despite CPR attempts, the woman -- described as Hispanic, in her 20s, and a Chula Vista resident -- was declared dead at the scene.

Police told ABC 10News there was no immediate indication the woman was struck by a vehicle.

On Friday, police identified the victim as 33-year-old Laura Rodriguez.

Chula Vista police Lt. Dan Peak said, "It's very suspicious at this time. The manner of death is unknown. At this time, we don't know why this person was here and why they were left here in the roadway."

Officers are questioning neighborhood residents as part of their investigation.

"It's a bit of a shock. This is a very quiet neighborhood ... About 20 minutes before she was found, I heard a vehicle revving up its engine and going around the corner," said neighbor Roger Murray.

The Chula Vista Police Department is trying to locate witnesses or anyone with information regarding Rodriguez's death. Anyone with any information is asked to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
