CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - A man was killed after police say he was run over by his own pickup truck that rolled away at a Chula Vista auto dealership.

The incident happened at around 11:15 p.m. Sunday at Toyota of Chula Vista (650 Main St.), according to Chula Vista police.

According to police, the victim -- identified as a dealership employee -- arrived at a gate at the business and was attempting to open it when his Dodge Ram truck began to roll forward.

Police determined that the driver did not place the truck in park.

Police said the man ran after his truck and tried to jump inside to stop it, but he tripped and fell down. The truck then rolled over him, causing him to be pinned underneath, police said.

A bicyclist who happened to be riding by the dealership saw the incident and called for help, according to police.

Responding paramedics and police officers found the driver dead at the scene.

The incident is under investigation, police said.
