SAN DIEGO (CNS) -- Torrey Pines High School alumnus John Lynch has been selected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, the NFL announced Saturday.
Lynch was a nine-time Pro Bowl selection at safety when he played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 1993-2003 and Denver Broncos from 2004-2007. He was selected by Tampa Bay in the third round of the 1993 draft, the 82nd overall selection, out of Stanford.
Lynch was selected in his ninth year of eligibility and eighth year as a finalist.
Lynch received the required 80% minimum positive vote from the 48- member Selection Committee at its virtual meeting Jan. 19. The announcement of the Hall of Fame's eight-member Class of 2021 was made on the "NFL Honors" special that aired Saturday night on CBS.
"John was one of the greatest Buccaneers of all time and our family is so proud of his induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame," said Buccaneers owner/co-chairman Bryan Glazer. "He is a class act on and off the field and is truly deserving of this honor."
Lynch has been general manager of the San Francisco 49ers since 2017 after being an NFL analyst for Fox from 2008-16.
The other Modern Era players selected were Peyton Manning, Calvin Johnson, Alan Faneca and Charles Woodson. Manning, Johnson and Woodson were each selected in their first year of eligibility, Faneca in his sixth.
Former Los Angeles-Oakland Raiders and Seattle Seahawks coach Tom Flores was elected in the coach category. Drew Pearson, a receiver with the Dallas Cowboys from 1973-83, was selected from the senior category. Longtime Pittsburgh Steelers scout and personnel executive Bill Nunn was selected in the contributor category.
The class will be inducted Aug. 8.
