(KGTV) -- California is preparing for President Trump's visit to the border fence Friday as threats of closing the border appear to have cooled.
The visit comes as the President backed off threats to close the US-Mexico border in the near future, but threatened to slap tariffs on automobiles made in Mexico.
Tensions at the border reached a boiling point in November of 2018, when Trump said it was a "good time for a government shutdown if he didn't receive funding for the border wall. "I think probably, if I was ever going to do a shutdown over border security, when you look at the caravans, when you look at the mess, when you look at the people coming in, this would be a very good time to do a shutdown," Trump said.
