CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) -- A 16-year-old girl and a 19-year-old man were arrested in connection with the shooting death of a young man in Carlsbad, police announced Friday.
Just before 7:30 p.m. Thursday, police and fire crews were called to the 2300 block of Caringa Way in response to a report of an injured person at an apartment complex.
The injured person, an 18-year-old man, was found in the complex’s courtyard with a gunshot wound, police said.
Kelly, an apartment resident, told ABC 10News, “I was fixing dinner. I looked out the kitchen window and he was on the ground. I started performing CPR, but it was too late.”
The victim was transported to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His identity was not released.
Following an investigation, Carlsbad police detectives identified two people linked to the man’s death and arrested them.
According to police, a 16-year-old girl was booked into Juvenile Hall on suspicion of manslaughter and gross negligent discharge of a firearm.
Gerardo Gonzalez, 19, of San Marcos, was booked into Vista Jail on a felony child endangerment charge.
No other information was made available as the incident remains under investigation.
