SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Police arrested a young man in connection with a shooting in Linda Vista that left a 16-year-old boy dead. San Diego Police arrested 20-year-old Andy Phonsongkham hours after the deadly shooting.
Grieving neighbors and friends surrounded a makeshift memorial, made for 16-year-old Carlos Valdovinos.
At around 6:00 pm Thursday, a quiet Linda Vista neighborhood turned from fun to dangerous. Neighbors gave 10News surveillance video that captured five gunshots, followed by the driver speeding away in his gold-colored sedan.
“He took off really quick. I just see that there was one person through his back,” a neighbor and witness said.
San Diego Police said that driver is Andy Phonsongkham. They said for some reason, he and Valdovinos got into a confrontation. It escalated to Phonsongkham shooting the teen in the chest multiple times, officers said.
Neighbors remembered the horrifying moments.
“The guy that I live with, he’s the one that ran to the alley, seen the guy laying on the floor,” said the neighbor.
Friends took Valdovinos to the hospital where he later died. Hours later, San Diego Police arrested Phonsongkham. He was booked into jail with five felonies, including first-degree murder.
Details on the evidence that helped investigators identify the suspect were not immediately released.
