Southwestern College facility in National City on lockdown during search

Update, 4:45 p.m.: The lockdown was lifted after the campus was evacuated. There was no word of an arrest.

NATIONAL CITY, Calif. (KGTV) - The Southwestern College Higher Education Center in National City is on lockdown Friday during a police search, college officials reported on Twitter.

The lockdown started about 1:30 p.m. at the facility at 880 National City Blvd. as officers checked the area for a potentially dangerous male suspect.

National City Police say an abandoned vehicle was found nearby at about 1:40 p.m. that registered to an individual with an active warrant. Police said reports soon came in regarding an individual matching the description of the individual.

It's not known whether the person is armed.

No other Southwestern College campus is affected by the lockdown, according to a tweet. There are no students at the National City campus due to break, but staff is present at the location, according to officials.

The Higher Education Center offers courses for general education requirements and medical training.
