CHULA VISTA (KGTV) -- A man who called his relatives to say he killed his wife was taken into custody Friday night after a daylong standoff, police said.

The incident began late Friday morning at a home in the 700 block of Glover Avenue, just south of the Chula Vista Center, according to a spokesperson with the Chula Vista Police Department.

The man identified as John Partain, told police he was armed and barricaded himself in the home prompting a neighborhood lockdown.

Officers had been communicating with Partain but he later stopped answering their calls.

"Our goal is to safely resolve this issue," said Foxx. "We’re are asking the community to shelter in place or stay out of the area; until the situation is resolved."

A SWAT team was called in, police said. Partain was taken into custody around 6 p.m. He was taken to the hospital for clearance and will be booked into the San Diego County jail for murder.

Officers located the body of a woman inside the home. She was identified Saturday as 74-year-old Billie Jean Partain.
