CHULA VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) — Chula Vista Police say a person of interest has been identified in a fatal hit-and-run last month and they are cooperating with police.
The department says evidence from the East H St. scene on Jan. 17 was collected and led police to determine a make and model of the suspect vehicle that left 85-year-old Leandro Hernandez dead.
On Feb. 3, police located a vehicle matching their description and officers identified a person of interest and made contact with them. That person is now cooperating with the investigation. Police said they are not releasing the identity of that person at this time.
Hernandez was struck and killed by a vehicle as he was crossing the roadway. The driver never stopped at the scene, police said.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to call CVPD at 619-476-5302 or San Diego Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
