NATIONAL CITY, Calif. (KGTV) – Two people were killed after authorities said they were struck by vehicles while trying to run across Interstate 805 in the National City area Sunday evening.
The California Highway Patrol said the incident happened at around 8:24 p.m. on I-805 near Plaza Boulevard.
According to the CHP, a gray Toyota XA collided with a white Honda Civic on northbound I-805. A man and woman got out of the Toyota and “jumped the center median wall and attempted to run across the southbound lanes.”
The woman was struck by a Chevrolet Silverado and the man was hit by a Mazda; the victims, who were not identified, were pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP said.
No other injuries were reported.
The incident is under investigation.
