SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police are searching for a man they say scammed a 94-year-old San Diego woman for home repairs.

According to police, John Ted Barney showed up at the woman’s home in San Diego’s Morena neighborhood in September of 2018.

Police say Barney told her he noticed cracks in her driveway that needed repair before handing her a flyer advertising his services.

Barney then reportedly convinced the woman that more repairs around the home were needed and demanded payment up front.

“Barney did not complete the work and charged the victim a substantial amount of money,” police said. He's now wanted for grand theft on an elderly person and residential burglary.

Barney also has a felony warrant out of Washington State for theft. Investigators believe this isn’t the first time Barney has scammed victims in San Diego.

Anyone with information is asked to call the San Diego Police Department’s Elder Abuse Unit at 619-446-1070 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
