EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) — A group of kids from WD Hall Elementary School aren't letting social isolation keep them from their favorite school club.

Even though classes are online, they've still found a way to produce a student newscast a few times each week, creating "East County Kids News."

"They're pretty similar to what we do at school," says Berlin Dixon, one of the girls behind the newscasts. "We changed it to what's going on in the community, so everyone's involved. It's not just one school that's having this difficult time. It's the entire community."

The videos include announcements from school, weather reports, videos and pictures from kids around the community, and interviews with teachers and other local leaders.

"It just goes back to why I love teaching," says teacher Laura Albright. "You give them something, and you don't confine them to this box. You give them the skill base, and they take it so much further, it's just amazing."

The newscasts have their own YouTube channel, which gets a few hundred hits for each video. The kids say they're trying to show that, even in hard times, you can still do what you love.

"During this time, we can show kids that even when something is going wrong, you can still focus on the positive," says Bristol Dixon.

"It's been pretty amazing," adds Berlin. "I hope that we can continue doing this, and I hope that it's helping other students push through this difficult time."
