SAN DIEGO (CNS) - The shoreline at Coronado was opened Sunday to swimmers and beachgoers after county health officials lifted the closure because recent water quality samples again met state health standards.

The San Diego County Department of Environmental Health and Quality issued the opening notice on Sunday afternoon.

However, the following beaches remain under advisory, the agency said: Fanuel Park in Mission Bay, Children's Pool in La Jolla, Tidelands Park in Coronado, La Jolla Cove and San Diego River Outlet in Ocean Beach.

The Tijuana Slough, Imperial Beach, and Silver Strand Shorelines will remain closed until sampling confirms these areas are safe for water contact.

“We weren’t expecting signs to be out and having that little advisory made me a little nervous,” said Angelo Quintero who drove to the beach from LA with friends.

Gonzalo Lopez, who came to Coronado from Orange County, said he wasn’t aware of the advisory to stay out of the water. He missed the sign when walking to the beach and went into the water Sunday before the advisory was lifted.

“We went back to the car to get a few things and we came back, and we saw the notifications, so we were kind of worried at that point… We thought we want to take a shower immediately,” he said.

Santee resident Lex Beckom was pleased when she found out the advisory was lifted.

“Halleluiah! We can go swimming,” Beckom said.
