SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The City of San Diego is hosting a free automotive products recycling event on January 26 for San Diego residents.

The event, put on by the city’s Environmental Services Department, will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at SDCCU Stadium.

Residents are encouraged to bring motor oil, oil filters, batteries and antifreeze from garages to keep the products out of storm drains.

The city is also accepting household batteries and fluorescent light bulbs at the event. Proof of residency is required.

“City residents can conveniently recycle automotive waste that can be potentially harmful if it’s not disposed of properly,” said Joy Newman, Household Hazardous Waste Program Manager.

“We are encouraging do-it-yourselfers and home mechanics to drop off used oil, oil filters, antifreeze and auto batteries to help keep our streets and waterways clean.”
