SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Four Westfield-run shopping malls in San Diego County shut down "the majority of its operations" in an attempt to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
The malls in Escondido (North County), National City (Plaza Bonita), San Diego (Mission Valley), and University City (UTC) will “temporarily close the majority of its operations” in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Westfield officials said the closures were “in response to the widespread COVID-19 outbreak” and made the decision “after carefully reviewing the World Health Organization, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and public health authorities’ guidance to practice social distancing and minimize public gatherings …”
However, Westfield said that some retailers at their malls may still be open so essential retail remains in operation for customers. Officials are urging the public to visit the Westfield website to confirm hours for those specific retailers.
Westfield did not immediately say how long the mall closures would last.
