(KGTV) "Rory at Torrey!"
A golf fan shouted the catchy phrase as he followed one of the tournament headliners during Wednesday's Pro-Am round at the Farmers Insurance Open.
Indeed, Rory McIlroy has come to Torrey Pines.
For the first time in his career, the 4-time major winner from Northern Ireland will tee it up in San Diego's annual PGA Tour stop. McIlroy changed his schedule this year to get an earlier start, adding a couple of stops on golf's West Coast Swing.
"I like coming to new golf courses," McIlroy said after his first-ever round on the South Course. Of course, he didn't come into the week completely in the dark. Like most golf fans, he's seen Torrey Pines several times on television.
"You get a perception of a golf course from TV but then you play it, and it does play very different than I thought it was going to play."
McIlroy is grouped with Rickie Fowler and Adam Scott for the opening two rounds. The threesome will start just in front of Tiger Woods' group at 10:30am on Thursday on the South Course followed by a 9:20am round on the North Course on Friday.
