Rain leads to spinouts, crashes on San Diego freeways

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Rain-slicked roads across San Diego County led to multiple crashes on local freeways early Tuesday morning.


Northbound SR-163 transition ramp to northbound I-5 in downtown San Diego (6:30 a.m.): Vehicle rollover crash left the driver trapped in the wreckage, the CHP said. The incident prompted a Sig Alert as traffic was stopped for emergency crews to assist the trapped driver.


Northbound I-5 at Governor Drive in La Jolla (5:55 a.m.): California Highway Patrol reported a multi-vehicle crash, with one of the vehicles blocking the middle lane.


I-15 near I-8 (3:15 a.m.): Semi-truck traveling on I-15 jackknifed and went off the road before crashing into a tree. The big rig’s driver was uninjured and the trailer was empty, 10News learned.


Northbound I-805 at I-8 in Normal Heights (3 a.m.): A car spun out and crashed down an embankment, but the driver did not suffer any injuries.


Southbound I-805 at E St. in Chula Vista (2:45 a.m.): A car spun out on the rain-slicked road and slammed into a guardrail. The driver suffered what was described as minor injuries.


Northbound I-5 on Vandergrift Blvd. off-ramp in Oceanside (12 a.m.): A big rig jackknifed on the off-ramp from I-5, forcing the closure of the ramp so a tow truck could clear the wreckage. No injuries were reported.
