SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The U.S. Coast Guard issued Monday a warning for boaters about several gray whales in San Diego Bay.
H&M Landing whale watching vessels spotted two whales near Ballast Point, about one mile inside the entrance to the bay. A third whale was seen near the northwest corner of North Island Naval Air Station, across from the Bali Hai Restaurant.
The southbound migration of the Pacific Gray Whale is currently at its peak, according to whale watching experts. The whales often pass close to the coast as they move from the Bering Sea to the Baja peninsula, but they are rarely seen in the bay.
