Five people displaced after Escondido apartment fire

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Five people were displaced after a fire tore through their Escondido apartment on Thursday.

The fire was reported at the Pepperwoods Apartments at 1817 East Grand Ave. just before 1 p.m., according to Escondido Fire Department. Crews arrived to find heavy smoke pouring out of the windows of a second-story apartment.

Residents were evacuated from the building as crews from EFD, Rancho Santa Fe Fire, and Carlsbad Fire battled the blaze. No injuries were reported.

At least five people were displaced from the apartment complex.

A cause for the fire is under investigation.

Police shut down a portion of East Grand Ave. to allow emergency crews into the area to fight the fire.
