CARLSBAD, Calif. (CNS) -- Police arrested a man suspected of driving drunk Sunday after he allegedly struck and seriously hurt a bicyclist, then drove away.
According to the Carlsbad Police Department, the collision happened around 10:40 a.m. on Circulo Sequoia, just northeast of La Costa Canyon High School.
The bicyclist, a 65-year-old woman from Arizona, was unconscious when police and paramedics arrived. She was transported to Palomar Medical Center with serious injuries.
A witness described seeing a black lowered Cadillac fleeing from the scene.
Using a helicopter and several deputies and officers, the black Cadillac that hit her was found a short distance away from the accident, police said.
Officers arrested the 26-year old driver, identified as John Hutchinson. Hutchinson was arrested and transported to the Vista Detention Facility where he was booked for felony hit-and-run with injuries and driving under the influence.
The investigation is ongoing.
