SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV) — New details are emerging after a plane was forced to land on a San Marcos roadway in mid-July.
According to the National Transportation Safety Board, the plane was cruising at 6,500 feet on July 16 just before 6:30 p.m. when the engine lost partial power.
“The pilot attempted to divert to nearby airport but was forced to land on a road when the flight could not reach the runway,” the NTSB said in its preliminary report.

Moments later, the plane landed on Rancho Santa Fe Road, colliding with one car.
The San Marcos Fire Department said two people inside the car were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The two men aboard the plane were uninjured.
“The plane flew overhead…it couldn’t have been more than 100 yards overhead,” said Marc Kerrest, who was at a barbecue nearby with his family when the plane landed.
