ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) - Dozens of homeless veterans will soon have a place of their own in North County.
The Veterans Village Apartments in Escondido are beginning the final steps of the moving process for the first tenant of their new campus.
William McCeig will move in to his own place on Escondido Boulevard next week after spending the last 11 years on the streets.
“I’m exceptionally lucky that everything lined up,” said McCeig, who is 57.
The Army air corpsman lost his electrician's license in 2008 and consequently his living for the last decade before finding the right people two years ago that have helped him get back on his feet.
“You you have to put yourself in a position to where you show an interest in making it happen for yourself and do the steps,” said McCeig, “I found the doors open up.”
The apartments are accepting applications and staff say they have apartments for roughly 52 veterans.
