At around 8:40 p.m., El Cajon police and emergency responders were called to the intersection of Broadway and First Street in response to a pedestrian hit by a vehicle.

Police said a white Toyota Camry was traveling eastbound on Broadway when it struck a man in a wheelchair. Police noted that the man “was crossing Broadway against a red light” when the car hit him.

The victim, who was not identified, was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries.

According to police, the Camry’s driver remained at the scene and was cooperating with investigators.

Alcohol or drugs did not appear to be factors in the incident, police said.
