LAKESIDE, Calif. (KGTV) -- A man was taken into custody and a woman was hurt in a deputy-involved shooting that took place after deputies responded to a domestic incident on the Barona Indian Reservation.
San Diego County Sheriff’s Department officials said deputies were called to the 4000 block of Capitan Grande, just north of Lakeside, regarding an incident involving a man and woman at around 8:20 p.m. Sunday.
Officials said: “When deputies arrived, they were speaking with the woman when her boyfriend, [23-year-old] Gianni Oliver, emerged and started shooting at the deputies. The confrontation resulted in one sergeant and four deputies shooting at Oliver. After a short standoff, Oliver surrendered to deputies assigned to the Special Enforcement Detail.”
Oliver was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, officials said. He was taken to the hospital for treatment of a minor injury.
Sheriff’s officials confirmed the woman in the incident “was shot during the exchange of gunfire. She was treated at a local area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries and discharged.”
The incident, including the events that led to the woman being shot, is under investigation.
