ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) - A man suspected of leading police on a pursuit in the Escondido area and firing multiple shots at officers was taken into custody and suffered a gunshot wound to his foot during the incident.
Escondido police said officers were called to a home in the 1400 block of Rincon Villa Drive at around 1:30 a.m. Thursday in response to reports of someone in a Dodge Charger firing shots at a home.
When officers arrived, the Charger fled the scene and led officers on a pursuit on northbound Interstate 15 that reached speeds over 100 mph.
The Charger exited onto Deer Springs Road but ran over spike strips laid down by police. The car came to a stop near a store on Mesa Rock Road.
The driver got out of the car and ran away, firing several shots at police officers, prompting them to return fire.
Officers eventually tracked down the gunman and arrested him. The unidentified man suffered a gunshot wound to his foot, but police did not immediately confirm if he was struck by an officer’s bullet or if he accidentally shot himself.
10News learned two officers suffered minor injuries, but their wounds were not related to the gunfire exchange.
No other injuries were reported.
