CORONADO, Calif (KGTV) - A 4-year-old girl is recovering in the hospital after she was run over by a lifeguard truck that was conducting routine beach patrols on Monday.
Coronado Fire Department Chief Jim Lydon said the incident happened at around 6:15 p.m. on the north end of Coronado Beach, near Dog Beach.
Lydon said witnesses reported that the child was crouched down and the lifeguard did not see her.
The lifeguard stopped immediately and offered first aid care until she was rushed to Rady Children's Hospital, Lydon said.
A family friend told 10News the child is stable although the extent of her injuries are unknown.
The chief called the accident unfortunate and said the department will look at their procedures and take steps to avoid future accidents.
