SANTEE, Calif. (KGTV) - San Diego County sheriff's deputies are investigating a death after human remains at some trails in Santee Wednesday.
According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, the discovery was made along a trail near Summit Avenue and Summit Crest Drive around 4 p.m.
Some hikers found the remains on a trail nearby, according to the Sheriff's Department.
The Sheriff's Homicide Unit responded and assumed responsibility for the investigation. They are working with the Medical Examiner's Office to identify the remains and determine the cause and manner of death.
Thursday, Sheriff's Homicide Lieutenant Tom Seiver said the department had received numerous inquiries as to whether the case was related to the Chula Vista missing person's case involving Maya Millete. Lt. Seiver said the department has, "no indications the remains are related to the active Chula Vista Police Department missing person case."
Chula Vista Police sent ABC 10News a similar statement that the two cases appear unrelated at this time.
