FALLBROOK, Calif. (KGTV) — A head-on collision at a rural intersection in the far northern reaches of San Diego County left one person dead Friday and one person injured, authorities reported.

The fatal crash, which involved a sedan and a pickup truck, occurred at Amigos Way and East Alvarado Street in Fallbrook shortly before 10 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

A 41-year-old man from Fallbrook was driving a Chevrolet Cruz when it veered from the eastbound lane of Alvarado Street directly in front of a Toyota Tacoma, causing a head-on collision.

He died at the scene.

CHP said a 42-year-old woman from Fallbrook was driving a Toyota Tacoma. She suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Palomar Medical Center for treatment.

The names of the victim and suspect were not immediately available.

Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the crash, said CHP.

The head-on crash is under investigation.
