SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A man and his French bulldog puppy are back together after a group of people reportedly stole the dog and led police on a pursuit.

The dog's owner called San Diego Police just before 4:30 p.m. and said he had been jumped by a group of people near IKEA in Mission Valley. The man said the group stole his puppy and fled, according to police.

The victim then jumped into his car and followed the suspects, leading him to the La Jolla Shores area.

The man stayed on the phone with police while he followed the suspects, helping police spot the vehicle. The suspects refused to stop for police at first, but eventually pulled over on southbound Interstate 5 near the National Ave. offramp.

Four people were found in the vehicle, but it's unclear whether they were all arrested or the charges they face.

Police say the puppy was safely recovered.
