SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Some good Samaritans helped rescue a driver after her SUV rolled over on Interstate 8 in the Mission Valley area early Friday morning.

At around 3 a.m., witnesses told 10News a woman was parked on the shoulder of westbound I-8 near state Route 163 when an oncoming car slammed into her SUV, causing it to flip onto its roof.

The impact left both vehicles near the middle of freeway lanes.

Several motorists pulled over to help the woman out of the flipped SUV, and she was later taken to an area hospital to be evaluated.

The driver of the other car was checked by paramedics but did not require hospitalization.

The California Highway Patrol is trying to determine what caused the car to crash into the SUV and why the SUV was parked on the shoulder.
