SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – One of five workers injured in a construction site accident Thursday at UC San Diego campus in La Jolla died of his injuries, Cal/OSHA reported.
The incident was reported shortly before 9 a.m. in an area near Mandler Hall at Muir Lane and Scholars Drive, according to San Diego Fire-Rescue officials.
California Occupational Safety and Health officials told 10News a 35-foot rebar fell on the site, but no further details were given.
The injured workers are employees of Clark Construction.
Carlos Gonzales, senior vice president at Clark Construction, provided a statement to 10News that read in part:
"We have started a full investigation and are cooperating with the proper authorities, including CalOSHA. We take all matters involving the safety of our workforce, our jobsites, and the public seriously. Our deepest sympathies are with this individual’s family, friends, and co-workers during this incredibly difficult time."
